Russia's national team for the Summer Universiade 2013 will include Olympic champions and students of sports schools across 16 sports.
41 athletes of Kazan will perform at the Games in Kazan across 16 sports, said Ilgiz Fakhriev, Chairman of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sport during today's Monday business meeting.
There are 27 sports in the Summer Universiade sports programme. According to Fakhriev, the Russian delegation will be the largest one at the Games. "The Russian national delegation comprises 663 athletes, with 48 athletes of the Republic of Tatarstan being put on the first team line-up to compete for medals in 20 sports and over 50 athletes being included in the reserve team. Speaking of Kazan, its 41 athletes will join the first team roster across 16 sports. Another 45 athletes from Kazan will be on reserve," he said.
"The Russian national team have been given the task of finishing top of the unofficial medal count at the Universiade. Our team features over 25 Olympic champions, 50 Olympic medallists, over 160 Merited Masters of Sport International Class," said the Chairman of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sport.
